Hutton roof crags walk. I ve passed them numerous times on the way to the lakes and have had it in mind to visit them for a while now. To extend your walking in the area you could pick up the lune valley ramble and enjoy a riverside stroll along the river lune. This walk starts by climbing through the fine beech woodland of dalton crags. A 13 mile walk from arnside to kirkby lonsdale takes you over hutton roof crags.
It then carries on over hutton roof crags to the trig point at 903 feet set high on open common where the first curlew has arrived. Whilst hutton roof crags may not match the lake district in terms of scale and beauty it is the incredible mosaic of limestone pavements that spread throughout the area that make hutton roof a worthwhile visit. Those who are ticking summits and spend their time battling the thick gorse on its lower slopes and those who are there to appreciate the almost unique limestone scenery along both their long broad ridge. Pavement occurs in a mosaic with woodland scrub grassland and heath.
You could start the walk from here and follow the limestone link cumbria to the crags. There are two types of people who climb farleton fell and hutton roof crags. The village of hutton roof is tucked away in south cumbria the other side of holmepark fell easily seen from the m6 motorway by junction 36. Hutton roof crags contains some of the best areas of limestone pavement in britain with a wealth of unusual plants and animals. Hutton roof crags and the adjacent farleton fell sit just to the east of the arnside silverdale aonb and together form an extensive area of upland limestone. Our prime annual event is the fell race and country fair every spring bank holiday saturday at the end of may. The mosaic of woodland scrub grassland and heath coupled with splendid views make for an interesting and varied day out.
